Ronald Case Sept. 20, 1951-Jan. 24, 2013

Ronald D. Case, a partner at Fairway Villas at Catawba, passed on Jan. 24 after a brief, valiant fight against lung cancer, at age 61.

He was born Sept. 20, 1951, in Akron, to Richard and Eve Case. A 1969 graduate of Coventry High School, he pursued his love of motorcycles, going into business in 1968 with his brother Rick at Case Honda in Massillon.

A true entrepreneur with a keen financial mind, Ron had a passion for business even as a child, peddling strawberries and eggs door to door in the Portage Lakes neighborhood where he grew up. Over the years his 14 businesses were wide and varied, spanning from motorcycles to video rental, making ice cream for his Honey's homemade ice cream stores, then GNC vitamin stores, golf course and resort development.

He was an enthusiastic golfer, deep-sea as well as local pond fisherman, and poker player, ever the competitor. Whether it was his bikes, his boats, his cars or his golf carts, Ron lived life with the credo of "faster is always better." The same held true with his illness.

Preceded in death by his parents and brothers Robert and Thomas, he is survived by his beloved wife Jean with whom he celebrated 38 best-friend and business-partner years; son Greg (Jeri) and grandchildren Alyssa, Brody and Dax Case of San Antonio, TX; stepsons Chad Frlich of Coral Springs, FL and Todd Frlich, of Broadview Heights; and brother Rick (Rita) of Hillsboro Beach, FL. Ron never met a stranger, and his family, colleagues and many friends will certainly miss him and his zest for life. Ron always made an impression.

A private memorial service was held on Sunday, Jan. 27. In lieu of flowers, donations-to be matched by his great friend and business partner Tom (Joyce) Bohlander-may be made in Ron's memory to The First Tee Lake Erie (
