Head Coach: Drew Davie, third season

Last Season: 0-21 (0-14 TAAC)

Key Players: Dylan Buckley, SG, 5-11; Dominic Manuella, PG, 5-9; Chance Mackall, PF, 6-3; Connor Lenthe, SG, 5-6; Caleb Gerber, SF, 6-1.

Outlook: Here's the bad news: The Lakers lose Caleb Helline, their top scorer (17.7 ppg; 8.0 rpg) from last season and a first-team Toledo Area Athletic Conference selection, as well as Dalton Chapman (10.3 ppg; 3.7 rpg). The good news, however, is that the team returns several key players, among them Dylan Buckley, Chance Mackall and Dominic Manuella, giving Danbury hope that this can be a promising season.

For head coach Drew Davie, now in his third season at the helm, he is hoping that his young team can rely on three returning lettermen, Dylan Buckley, Chance Mackall and Dominic Manuella to help lead the way.

“This year's team is very young, as we only have two seniors and two juniors that are healthy,” Davie said. “With a lack of experience at the varsity level, this team will have to grow up fast. Chance, Dylan and Dominic played a lot of minutes for us last season at the varsity level and we look for them to be the catalysts for this team.”

Buckley, a 5-11 shooting guard, averaged 4.4 points last season and will be looked to help supplant some of the scoring left by Helline's graduation. Mackall, a 6-3 power forward, averaged 3.7 points and 5.1 rebounds last season and will be expected to man the post and serve as the team's inside presence. Manuella, the point guard, will be faced with the task of running the offense. Should these three players perform well this season, there is reason to believe that this year's team could compete in the TAAC. For that to become a reality, sophomore Caleb Gerber, a 6-1 small forward, and freshman Connor Lenthe, a 5-6 shooting guard, must help complement the offensive attack and play good, hard-nosed defense.

Davie is looking for his team to focus on two specific things: (1) working relentlessly on the defensive end to make things difficult on their opponents; and (2) limiting their turnovers.

Davie was pleased with the commitment shown by his players in terms of their offseason work ethic and is hopeful that is can translate to some success on the basketball court.

“Those (athletes) that are involved with multiple sports worked hard in the offseason with each sport they were committed to,” he said. “Those athletes that did not play fall sports conditioned and participated in open gyms all summer and fall. We are excited of the commitment that those gentlemen have shown both in the weight room and gym. As a team, we attended a couple of shootouts this summer and also took our varsity and JV teams to the University of Findlay Team Camp.”

For now, Davie just wants to keep things simple.

“Our goal this season is to work hard every day, both in practices and games, and get better each day that we're together. We want to compete and leave it all out on the floor. We (must) work hard, learn from our mistakes, value every possession and play good defense.”
