With its 40-35 overtime win over Northwood, the Danbury girls basketball team improved to 4-3 overall and 4-0 in the Toledo Area Athletic Conference, good for first place.
The win came with the Lakers outscoring the Rangers, 6-1, in the extra session to claim victory. Katie Almendinger scored 11 points to lead Danbury, Tori Wright chipped in with eight and Stephanie Kukay finished with seven points.
Northwood's Megan Roach led all scorers with 17 points and teammate Doma Cruz had eight points.
It was a close contest throughout as the game was tied at 17 at halftime and the Lakers up one, 24-23, after the third quarter before the Rangers outscored Danbury, 11-10, in the fourth period to send the game into overtime.
Danbury 27, Cardinal Stritch 22
In a low-scoring game that was tied at 8 at halftime, Cassidy Rhodes hit three 3-pointers in the third quarter to lead the Lakers to a 27-22 victory.
Rhodes helped key a third quarter run that saw Danbury outscore the Cardinals, 13-6, to take control of the game. For the game, Rhodes had 12 points to lead all scorers. Katie Almendinger and Erin Lavelle finished with four points apiece.
Abby Mass led Cardinal Stritch with eight points.
Danbury 43, Gibsonburg 26
Katie Almendinger scored seven consecutive points in the third quarter to help give the Lakers a 13-point lead as they defeated Gibsonburg, 43-26.
Almendinger also helped key a second-quarter run that saw Danbury grab a 22-11 halftime lead.
Megan Stephens finished with 10 points and seven rebounds to help pace the Lakers and Tori Wright grabbed 11 boards.
Danbury 55, E. Christian 34
The Lakers took the lead for good behind an impressive first-quarter performance by Cassidy Rhodes that saw her score seven points as Danbury stormed out to a 9-0 lead.
For the game, Rhodes finished with a game-high 12, Katie Almendinger had eights points and Stephanie Kukay chipped in with seven.
The Lakers travel to Seneca East on Thursday.
