Rocket boys edge Genoa in Ottawa County rivalry

Behind 19 points from Andy Rathbun, Oak Harbor held off a late Genoa rally to defeat the Comets, 72-66, in non-conference action last weekend. The Rockets, who improved to 1-0 with the win, held off a furious Genoa rally in the fourth quarter before prevailing. Oak Harbor put the game away when it pushed the lead to four at 70-66 when Tyler Sievert connected on a free throw with 16.6 seconds to play. Another key play came at the 2:01 mark when Rathbun connected a three-pointer to give the Rockets a six-point lead shortly after the Comets had cut the deficit to one at 60-59.

In addition to Rathbun’s 19 points, Josh Sarahman finished with 10 and Ben Cochran and Garrett Harvey scoring nine apiece. Genoa was led by Luke Rightnowar, who finished with 26 points leading all scorers. Noah Goodrich scored 15 and Casey Gose chipped in with 10.

Oak Harbor hosts Port Clinton on Friday and travels to Millbury to face the Lake Flyers on Saturday.
