PC girls even record at 1-1 with win over Woodmore

The Redskins were in control racing out to a 10-point lead after one quarter and a 17-point advantage at halftime in their 68-39 defeat of Woodmore in non-conference action last week. Emily Ashley led all scorers with 22 points, Hope Thorbahn finished with 16 and Hannah Weaver chipped in with 13. Woodmore’s Allie Wank had 14 points to lead the Wildcats and Mackenzie Johnson finished with 12.

PC boys open season with victory over Bellevue

PC's Nathan Stubblefield hoists up a 3-pointer against Bellevue

After falling behind nine points midway thru the first quarter, the Redskins rallied to take the lead into halftime before pulling away from Bellevue in their 55-48 victory over the Redmen last weekend. The win, which puts Port Clinton at 1-0, saw the Skins outscore Bellevue (0-1), 15-6, in the second quarter to take a 22-17 lead at halftime before the Redmen responded by cutting the deficit to 36-35 at the end of three.

Danbury girls begin season with a split

With 15 points from Erin Lavelle, the Danbury Lakers evened their record at 1-1 with a 40-35 non-conference win over Huron last week. With the game tied at 19 at the half, Danbury slowly pulled away, outscoring the Tigers, 9-6, in the third quarter and 12-10 in the final period to pull out the win.

In addition to Lavelle’s 15, Cassidy Rhodes scored eight and Alyssa Almendinger and Megan Stephens each finished with six points. Jessica Carroll led the Tigers with nine points and Audra Wisehart chipped in with six.

The Lakers host St. Joseph CC and Ottawa Hills this week.

The Danbury boys, which have yet to begin play, travel to Old Fort and Ottawa Hills this week before hosting St. Mary CC on Saturday.
