It will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 23, not on Tuesday, July 31, as we reported. They are looking for Flea Market and Garage Sale Vendors. Today, Thursday, June 7, there will be a Chicken Barbecue hosted by Oak Harbor United Methodist Church from 4:30 to 7 p.m. or until they are sold out. Cost is only $8 for a half-chicken dinner with all the fixings. And you can carry it out and take it home.
The Catawba/Marblehead Parade of Homes is coming up and our big kickoff dinner will be held on Thursday, July 5, at Crow’s Nest in Danbury Township. The tickets for that event are $20 each and include a huge buffet and wine tasting with ALL the proceeds going to the local unit of Salvation Army. Tickets are on sale at Minuteman Press, The Beacon and at the Salvation Army unit in the Sutton Center.

This Friday, June 8, the Facebook group “Pay it Forward — Port Clinton” host a lemonade stand to benefit the non-profit organization “Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation” in front of Perfect Color Hair and Tan at 90 N. The Ottawa County Junior Fair members are having a Horse Show at the Ottawa County Fairgrounds this weekend starting at 7 p.m. Friday night June 8. Saturday’s show starts at 10 a.m. This is a fundraising event to help improve the show arena at the Fairgrounds.
The Port Clinton Lions Club will hold a Chicken Barbecue this Saturday, June 9, at Lakeview Park in Port Clinton. Chicken dinners will be available from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. or until they are sold out. Advance tickets are $7.50 and are available from any Lions Club member. Mondays in June, Steve and Lisa Gilliland at Underwood’s Grill in Port Clinton will be donating 30 percent of their food sales between the hours of 4 and 7 p.m. to the Friends of Port Clinton Parks. That group is $1,500 short of obtaining a plaque to re-name the Pavilion in honor of Bob Underwood. They also have Bob Underwood Cookbooks on sale.
On Sunday, a group of friends and family members of local resident Tom Frerick gathered at Dock’s Beach House for a special fundraiser. Tom, who has worked all his life, suffered a stroke in February and has been unable to work, awaiting disability payments to kick in. He has been forced to rely on the local safety nets along with family and friends for support. For information on donating to Tom’s cause, call Bill Worley at 317-407-6942.
The Humane Society of Ottawa County has filled the month of June with all kinds of events, starting with a spaghetti dinner this Saturday, June 9 from 5-8 p.m. at the Port Clinton VFW Post on Madison Street. Cost is $7. Carryouts are available and they will also hold 50/50 raffles and a bunch of other fun stuff. They are also planning the first “Dog Wash” of the season on Saturday, June 16, at Dubbert’s Marine on Ohio 163 east of Port Clinton from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Cost of the wash is just $8. There are more activities scheduled for later in the month, which we will tell you about next week.
The Conestoga Neighborhood Group will have a meeting/pot luck next Thursday, June 14, at the Shelter House in Lakeview Park from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome.
Attention kids in grades four through seven: you may want to join the “Mission to Mars Club” this summer at Ida Rupp Public Library in Port Clinton. Kids will have fun, eat snacks, do experiments and learn about space. They will have astronaut ice cream, build the planet Mars with marshmallow treats, and make a volcano. Open registration has begun for the sixth annual Habitat for Humanity of Ottawa County Golf Scramble on Saturday, June 16, at Oak Harbor Golf Club. The top sponsor is Materion in Elmore. Ottawa County Chapter of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans will be providing supplemental funding. The scramble will be an 8 a.m. shotgun start and the cost is $260 per team. Four days later, you can participate in the 14th annual Rally for the Cure Golf Scramble, also at Oak Harbor Golf Club, hosted by the Oak Harbor Golferettes. It will be Wednesday, June 20 and the fee is $55 per person, which includes continental breakfast, green fees, a cart and a luncheon. Registration begins at 7 a.m. with an 8 a.m. shotgun start. The field is limited to the first 36 paid teams and all entries must be received by June 13.
American Legion Post 113 in Port Clinton is getting organized for its annual Garage Sale on June 16. The hours of the sale are 8:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. A lunch will be available starting at 11:30. They are asking for donations good, usable items. Your donations may be dropped off at the Post at the corner of Sand Rd. and Christy Chapel Road. For information, call 419-960-7083. There will be a “Bluegrass Jam” at the Erie-Ottawa Regional Airport from 6 to 11 p.m. Saturday, June 23. They will feature several local bluegrass bands, food and refreshments in the main hangar. Admission is $4.
