Regular zoning hours in effect

Hello again. This year seemed to fly by … or I’m just getting older and forgot half of it!  I would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone that the village has regular zoning hours now. You can stop in to the Village Hall or call 9 a.m. to noon Monday through Thursday and noon to 3 p.m. Fridays. The zoning office is in the Village Hall above the police station and the number is 419-798-4074. We did this so that you can more easily contact me and get answers to your zoning questions. You can walk out with your zoning permit usually within 10 or 15 minutes. Based on the use you all have made of the office, you like the service. We average about 15 calls or visits a week. When you get the chance, tell Mayor Bird and the Council that you appreciate this service. For those who do not already know, the owner of the property is not necessarily the one that has to come in to get a zoning permit. You can have your builder, architect, engineer or some other designee of your choice come in and get the permit for you. If you have any questions for me, just call the Village Hall or e-mail me directly at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Election time again

By John Starcher, Marblehead Village Council President Pro Tem

Last year at this time I wrote the monthly Village Square article, and pleaded with you to approve our 2-mil property tax renewal levy. Thankfully the majority of you obliged (almost 70 percent), and this extremely critical levy passed. This year, no such issues are before us. What is before us, however, is the election of the majority of council seats.  Four of the six seats are up for election.
Chris Skinner, Vickie Kozak, John McDonald and I are all up for reelection. All four of us are running unopposed, so barring something extremely bizarre, we will all be serving you for another four years. Some have said that this is a bad thing, implying in their pontifications that we candidates are somehow to blame for the fact that no one is challenging our seats. At least, this is what I was told.
