Terra’s Phi Theta Kappa Chapter to host Ohio Regional Conference

Students from two-year colleges across the state will be gathering at Terra State Community College later this month for a conference with their peers.
The Alpha Mu Epsilon chapter of Phi Theta Kappa at Terra is hosting the Leadership in Action Conference, “The Culture of Competition,” on July 27-28.
Phi Theta Kappa is an international honor society for students in two-year schools. This is the first time Terra has hosted the annual event.
“For Terra to host the Ohio regional conference here on campus is something I never would have imagined,” said Seth Sholl, a PTK member from Tiffin. “It’s a big event with lots of two-year students. It will be great to talk to them and find out where they are from and where they are going.”

Alzheimer’s Association offers support to caregivers

The Alzheimer’s Association, Northwest Ohio Chapter is hosting Caregiver Groups in the following locations and times:
• 9 a.m. Monday, Aug. 13 at Magruder Hospital Conference Room, 615 Fulton St., Port Clinton. Facilitators are Jody Strickling, 419-707-2682, and Marian Blevins, 419-797-4923.
• Meeting times vary, Oak Harbo. Facilitator is Amy Simkus, 419-239-8235
Alzheimer's disease is the sixth-leading cause of death in the United States and the only cause of death among the top 10 in the United States that cannot be prevented, cured or even slowed
These caregiver groups are free and open to the public. Registration is not required. However, it is suggested that you contact the facilitator of the group you plan to attend for the first time to confirm the time, place and date of the meeting. For information on caregiver groups or other programs of the Alzheimer’s Association, Northwest Ohio Chapter, call 419-537-1999 or 800-272-3900.

Coffee shop, fitness studio open for business

Two new businesses are celebrating grand openings in downtown Oak Harbor: Mill Street Brew, at 169 Mill St., and Lisa’s Fitness Studio at 165 W. Water St.
Mill Street Brew is a coffeehouse owned and operated by Chris and Rachel Varga. They have a variety of coffee drinks, smoothies, muffins, sandwiches, salads and more.
