Black wins second career MJMA title

Port Clinton graduate and current sophomore at Davenport University Sean Black continued his recent streak of good bowling this past weekend at the 27th Annual MJMA Jackson Classic by winning his second career MJMA title.

Black qualified 8th after Saturday with games of 169-172-203-242-177-190-236-179.  Black came back on Sunday with games of 220-211-215-177-201-231-165-214-207-206-175-199 and a 8-4 match play record and jumping to the first place seed.  Black met Ryan Winters of Livonia, MI, and came away the victor 183-173.  This was Black's second consecutive MJMA where he advanced to the championship match and 3rd out of the last 4, where he is 2-1 in title matches.

Sean Black second in Michigan Junior Masters

Former Redskin and now Davenport University Bowler Sean Black from Port Clinton finished second in the Michigan Junior Masters Association (MJMA) Tournament at Plaza Lanes in Plymouth, MI, Saturday and Sunday, August 23 and 24.

Competing on a 39’ flat sport lane condition, Sean finished 8 games qualifying Saturday in fifth place. He went 8-3-1 in match games Sunday to qualify for the five man stepladder in third place. He defeated Vincent Papais from Sterling Heights, MI, 232-191, then defeated Michigan High School Bowler of the Year Alex Ouellette from Bay City, MI, 200-191, then tied the Championship game to Antwar Howard from Flint before losing 10-8 in a 1 frame roll.

Sean Black takes second at JTBA

Sean Black, former Port Clinton Redskin Bowler and current Davenport University Bowler, led the qualifying at the Junior Tournament Bowlers Association (JTBA) at Miracle Lanes in Toledo Sunday, August 10.

He was fifth after the first 5 games rolling 211-178-209-269-190 and followed in the 3 game semifinals with 278-231-205 to become top qualifier. The JTBA used the 36’ Los Angeles Sport Lane Condition. He lost the final stepladder game to Urbana University’s Kyle Cook 259-190.

Sean earned $338 in scholarships and a paid entry into next summer’s USBC Junior Gold Tournament in Chicago.

“Today was a very strong outing and I am very pleased with this performance. I can’t be upset at all with losing in the Finals because it’s very difficult to beat a 259 on these type of Lane conditions,” Black said of the tournament. “This gives me lots of confidence after a rough tournament last weekend in Michigan so to come out and be able to execute good shots today was good as I continue to develop my bowling game.”
