National Honor Society holds food drive

Danbury's National Honor Society students sponsored a Thanksgiving food drive to contribute to the Danbury Food Pantry that ran from October 27 to November 7.  All homerooms participated in a competition to collect the highest amount of food products for a grand prize to be awarded to the winning classroom.

Danbury Food Sharing has served the Danbury Township community since 1983 on a monthly basis.  "The Pantry depends strictly on volunteers from churches, schools and the community" says Jan Hirt, coordinator for the Pantry. "We have served in 2014 to date 478 families with this so far being our highest census month with November still to come."

The NHS students who sponsored this drive included: Caleb Gerber, Megan Stephens, James Dorko, Taylon Molnar, Shay Rickard, Joey Mintz, Racheal Kirk, Marinah Edwards, Gina Moravec, Kelly Lavelle, Hayley Doski, Bri Adams, Alyx Perram, Taylor Zeims, Taylor Wilhite, Seth Bowser and advisor Holly Gast.

Monetary donations to the Danbury Food Pantry can be made payable to Danbury Food Pantry c/o Jan Hirt, 1775 S. Church Road, Marblehead Ohio 43440 or call Jan Hirt at 419-732-2703 or Rev. Janine Dress at 419-265-7298 for pick up of any food contributions.

Lakers fight valiantly, fall to Tiffin Calvert, 38-6

Despite trailing by just six points at halftime, the Danbury Lakers couldn't withstand Tiffin Calvert's second-half push and fell to the Senecas, 38-6, in the final game of the season.

Quarterback Justin Tibbels, who was filling for an injured Seth Vargo, nearly scored on the last play of the first half, something that would've given Danbury a lead heading into halftime, but Calvert stopped the Lakers short before rebounding to control the second half before pulling away.

On first down at the Senecas 17-yard-line with three seconds remaining, Tibbels ran up the middle on a quarterback draw that fooled the defense and nearly scored before being tackled at the 2-yard-line as time expired, helping Calvert to maintain a 6-0 lead at halftime.
