Magruder Hospital Auxiliary hosts Dollars for Scholars trunk/style show

The Magruder Hospital Auxiliary will be hosting Dollars for Scholars, a style/trunk show, in the CIC Chart Room on Sunday, September 21, from 1-4 p.m.   Proceeds will benefit the Auxiliary’s healthcare scholarship fund.  Enjoy background music, light refreshments & cocktails while browsing the items for purchase and for auction.

Magruder Hosts Annual Recognition Event

Gary Ziemke, Magruder Hospital's employee of the year, with Magruder Hospital President and CEO Todd Almendinger.

Magruder Hospital recently held its annual recognition event to honor employees, medical staff and board members for years of dedicated service through the end of 2013. 

Highlighting the evening was the announcing of Magruder’s Employee of the Year nominees for 2013.  Of those nominated, Gary Ziemke, Utility and Facilities Management, was selected as Employee of the Year.

Magruder’s Diabetes Program Earns National Recognition

Magruder Hospital’s Diabetes Self-Management Education Program recently renewed their certification for National Recognition by the American Diabetes Association (ADA).

The outpatient program, which requires a physician referral, offers patients the skills they need to better manage their diabetes on their own.

The ADA reviewed and evaluated Magruder’s program by the National Standards earning them National Recognition.  "It really assures us that the education we offer is the best it can be for our diabetic patients,” said Kathy Buckingham, RD, LD, CDE,  Magruder’s Director of Nutritional Services and coordinator of the program. 

The ADA Education Recognition effort is a voluntary process which assures that approved education programs have met the National Standards. The program was originally awarded Education Recognition in September, 2007.

“We have a lot of patients who come in and are scared because they have just been diagnosed and aren’t sure of just how their life is going to change. They see our Nurse Diabetic Educator, Krista Jeffries, RN, CDE and myself and we are both Certified Diabetic Educators.  We help take away their fears and anxieties by giving them the tools they need to successfully manage diabetes on their own. This helps to prevent unnecessary hospital admissions, and can cut down on acute and chronic complications,” said Buckingham.
