Plant a tree and camp for free

Ohioans wanting to celebrate Arbor Day early this year and support their state parks are encouraged to donate and help plant a tree at one of nine Ohio State Parks on Saturday, April 18. In return for their efforts, participants will receive one free night of camping for each tree they donate and help plant. This is the second year for this tree planting event which celebrates Arbor Day, and growing on the success of last year's event, nine parks will be participating, up from only four in 2014.

State wetlands habitat stamp reaches milestone

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) will commemorate the sale of the 1 millionth state wetland habitat stamp by awarding a signed print of this year’s winning entry. The stamp and print have been donated by Ducks Unlimited to help celebrate the milestone. Approximately 25,000 Ohio Wetland Habitat Stamps were purchased last year.

Fish winterkill may be common as ice retreats from Ohio’s ponds and lakes

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) is reminding people that fish kills may be common in ponds and small lakes this spring. Winter die-offs of fish that result from long periods of heavy ice and snow cover on small waters are referred to as winterkills. Winterkills may occur in some Ohio waters this year as ice and snow of the past few months gives way to spring.
