Huron defeats Port Clinton, 20-7

After experiencing so much success in recent weeks, Port Clinton lost for the second time this season, falling, 20-7, to Huron on Friday night at True-Lay Stadium.

The Tigers, currently alone in first place in the Sandusky Bay Conference, fell behind 7-0 before scoring 20 unanswered points to get the win. 

Huron is now 7-0 and 4-0 in the SBC, and the Redskins are now 6-2 overall and 2-2 in the league. Port Clinton is now ranked fifth in the Division IV, Region 12 Standings with 14.03 points.

The Tigers, which employ a spread offense and is known for passing the ball, accumulated 335 yards of total offense, but 258 came on the ground Huron established control at the line of scrimmage. Running back Kyle Kovach led the way, running for 108 yards and scoring three touchdowns while Danzell Harris rushed 14 times for 93 yards. In fact, Tigers quarterback Kyle Kovach attempted only nine passes on the night, completing five of them for 81 yards.

Lady Redskins complete day one of sectionals

The Lady Redskins had a successful day one of Sectionals at Clyde High School.  Each PC player won at least one match, and two singles players are advancing to the District tournament.  

"I'm very happy with how everyone played today.  Our losses were to good opponents.  I'm extremely proud of Alyssa and Kelsey for winning their 3 matches today to advance to Districts," said Coach Dunn.

PCHS Athletic Hall of Fame inductees: Scott Rickel and Class of 1976 football team

The members of the 1976 Port Clinton High School football team that went 9-1 with 7 shutouts and a Great Lakes League Championship were formally inducted into the Port Clinton High School Athletic Hall of Fame Saturday Night. With Leo Alvarado holding the GLL Championship Trophy, the team surrounds its head coach, Jim Hastings, who made the trip from Tennessee to Ohio this weekend for the special ceremonies. Hastings teams were 16-4 in his two seasons at the helm of the Redskins. Hastings spoke to the gathering on Saturday night and told a few stories about the team. He also admitted he may have made a mistake leaving for a College Coaching job at Morehead State in Kentucky. "No matter where I have gone in my coaching career, my heart is now and will always remain with Port Clinton and these great players." Two of the members of that team have passed on, including the starting center, Mike Ebert, who was represented by his wife Olga (pictured far left).
