Gem Beach to Rock Saturday Aug 16

Gather with 2500 friends on the shores of Lake Erie at Gem Beach on Catawba Island on August 16 from 12-8 p.m. to enjoy a day filled with music, food and cold beverages at Gem Beach Rocks VII.

Jam packed with classic rock and roll music all day, the headliners are The Homewreckers. The rest of the line-up includes the Reese Dailey Band from Put-in-Bay, The Traveling Lounge Lizards and the Naked Bacon Band.

Title sponsors for this all day rock ‘n’ roll concert are FriendShip Food Stores, BAS Broadcasting, The Beacon, WPCR Port Clinton Radio, Gem Beach Marina and more. Admission to the event is $10. This year, there are several high school reunions that will be taking place during the event. There is something for everyone; 50/50 drawings for cash prizes will be held throughout the day along with a variety of food and craft vendors.

Tickets are available at the United Way office in the Sutton Center, Gem Beach Marina Store, FriendShip Marathon on Perry Street, The Lake Erie Shores & Islands Welcome Center on State Rt. 53 or at the gate.

United Way christens LEAPmobile

United Way Director Chris Galvin and Dr. Ed Charnock christen the LEAPmobile with confetti and silly string. Charnock donated his used GMC Yukon to the Lake Erie Adventure Play (LEAP) program.

Dr. Ed Charnock and United Way Director Chris Galvin christened the LEAPmobile, a GMC Yukon donated by retired physician Dr. Ed Charnock.  In the spirit of LEAP’s mission for play, Charnock and Galvin sprayed confetti and silly string and covered the vehicle with handprints.

United Way Announces LIVE UNITED 2020

United Way of Greater Toledo put a stake in the ground and announced five year goals titled LIVE UNITED 2020. The goals were co-created by the community from hundreds of conversations over the past few years with community members, volunteers, key stakeholders, and the significant input of business, nonprofit, government and labor. LIVE UNITED 2020 provides a strong focus to measure and track progress and results for the entire community in Lucas, Wood, and Ottawa Counties.

LIVE UNITED 2020 goals will drive the strategies and resources of United Way of Greater Toledo in the following areas of education, income and health.
