Duck Drop, Chemo Crawl coming up

Going to the island or need a day at Monsoon Lagoon to cool off? Then support the American Cancer Society by purchasing a duck for the second annual Duck Drop to be held at 11 a.m. Aug. 18 at Monsoon Lagoon.  Your $10 duck purchase will give you a choice of a one-day Waterpark Pass to Monsoon Lagoon or a Round Trip Ferry Ticket to Put-in-Bay on the Miller Boat Line. All ducks will be dropped into the lazy river at Monsoon Lagoon and the first to finish wins the grand prize of $700. Second is $500 and third will be $300 worth of local gift certificates.  Last year it took 4 minutes for the ducks to race around the lazy river.

Prof to discuss archeological research on prison site

David R. Bush, PhD., Heidelberg University, Tiffin, will present a program at 7 p.m. July 16 at the Ida Rupp Public Library covering his archeological work at the Johnson’s Island Confederate Prison and Cemetery.
Bush began his archeological study of the Johnson’s Island site in 1989. Professor Bush’s research has yielded many significant finds on the Island, including the location of Fort Hill, Fort Johnson (the prison stockade) and the dock area. Excavations and “digs” have been used to study several of the sinks (latrines), the powder magazine for Fort Hill, a prison well and portions of two prison blocks.
