Finally after dancing around the their real intent, the hidden truth comes out as outlined in another recent Erie County newspapers editorial viewpoint. ( The on-going public tours of Plum Brook must have worked on them and our public officials and spending other peoples money seems lost in the process)?
To quote:
"So building a NASA airstrip big enough for Plum Brook's needs, but usable by other aircraft when the big transport aren't flying, makes the most sense". (At a cost of $50-70 million taxpayers dollars for a few flights that could easily land at Mansfield or Cleveland makes more sense)?
"Where does that leave Erie-Ottawa? In a good position if it plays its cards right. Erie-Ottawa might want to reconsider its ambitions of being a small-jetport and concentrate on its traditional role as a jumping-off point for the islands". (How arrogant of them to suggest we keep this current regional airport small and without a positive revenue stream by cutting off jet fuel sales and waste the millions of dollars already spent on the large jet ramp, new government and private condo hangars, fuel farm, engineering, service trucks, staff plus the current widening and runway lengthening to make it a even safer all weather regional airport)!
"Erie-Ottawa is limited in how it can grow" is nonsense as it can handle per the 2003 FAA funded Master Plan "12,500# single wheel and 30,000# dual wheel loading and accommodate the majority of general aviation aircraft". That takes in almost all large and small aircraft ever needed to service this area and so what if a west bound jet has to make a left turn to clear Davis-Besse, that's what the control yoke and rudder pedals are for!
"There's some agreement, at least among Ottawa County leaders on the potential of an airstrip at NASA Plum Brook in Erie County". (Even with this apparent public broken promise and intent to open it up to all aircraft and eventually financially kill Huron and Sandusky FAA funded county airports as well)?
As immediate past President of the Erie-Ottawa Regional Airport Authority, I urge voters in November to ask and reject anyone who supports this pork project and write/email your current local and national representatives before the final commitment to waste your tax dollars is made (if not already done) and financial harm all except Erie County.
Taxpayers are hurting these days and want to stop this silly spending nonsense.
Respectfully,
