History lesson

Immaculate Conception School fifth grade students of Jane Drusbacky were treated to a program about the Underground Railroad Quilt. Pictured with the quilts in the background are fifth-graders Melanie Rhoda (front left), Rachael Reineck, Laura Helmer, Abbey Weldon, Amelia Morrow, Hannah Roberts, Jake Kokinda (second row, left), Matthew Paeth, Trevor Frias, Kacie Busby, Emily Reineck, Katelyn Wammes (back left), Joey Brenner, Rachel Bou-Sliman, Dean Colston and Brittany Diaz.The students enjoyed learning how the secret signs in quilts helped slaves escape to freedom. The fifth graders were able to design their own paper quilt pieces. This program was presented at ICS by Rebecca Maenle, a member of the Ottawa County Extension office.
