Playmakers Civic Theatre Production Opens Thursday

Playmakers Civic Theatre's second production of the current season, the madcap comedy, “An Evening of Culture: FAITH COUNTY II; the Saga Continues”, opens Thursday, January 8th and runs for eight performances, closing after the Sunday Matinee on January 18th. The Thursday through Saturday shows have an 8 p.m. curtain, and the two Sunday Matinees begin at 2 p.m. Reservations may be made by calling 419-734-5044 and leaving your desired date and number of tickets by following the prompts on the answering machine.

A 16-year-old Japanese girl travels to Hawaii to marry a man she has never met, except through photos, in a world she cannot imagine. January 23—Songcatcher. 2001. USA. PG-13. Denied a promotion at a university where she teaches, Dr. Lily Penleric visits her sister in Appalachia, where she discovers a treasure-trove of ancient Scots-Irish ballads handed down by generations, preserved intact by the seclusion of the mountains.  Collecting songs to secure a promotion, she is led to question her motives. Sundance Festival award for ensemble performance, many American and French awards. 109 min.

Book Signing to Feature WW II Survivor

The Open Book Store will have as its guest Arthur Jibilian who is the last survivor of World War II’s operation Halyard. That mission returned more than 500 American airmen home to their families. The event will take place on January 17 at 10:30 a.m. at the Open Book Store, 118 S. Fremont Street in Fremont.
Jibilian, of Fremont, who was a U.S. Navy radioman and a member of the OSS - a precursor to the CIA, had to parachute into the German-occupied territory of Yugoslavia and stay there for months.

Free Movies for Holiday Family Viewing

Trying to keep the family occupied without spending a lot of money is a challenge every holiday season.  Free movies—available at the Ida Rupp Public Library—can help.  Here are just a few of the family movies available at your local library:
