| Lakers lose first home game of season |

The Danbury boys’ basketball team lost its first home game of the season to the Toledo Christian Eagles by a score of 68-51. The difference in the game was the third quarter in which the Lakers were outscored by a 19-6 margin. “The 10-0 run they had early in the third quarter was the difference,” said Coach Joe Miller. “Again we played solid for three quarters, but against good teams, you have to play well in all four quarters.” Toledo Christian shot a sizzling 53 percent (26 of 49) from the field and 67 percent (10 of 15) from the charity stripe. Danbury shot 42 percent (18 of 43) from the field and 52 percent (12 of 23) from the line. The Eagles out-rebounded the Lakers 30-20 and committed only 14 turnovers while the Lakers had 21 turnovers. Rodney Johnson led the Lakers with 17 points, seven rebounds, three steals, two assists and two blocked shots. Tyler Boring tallied 11 points, eight rebounds, three blocked shots, two assists and two steals. Hunter Stephens chipped in 10 points and Steven Feyedelem added six. In addition, Vince Manuella had a team-high five assists and also contributed four points on the night. The loss puts the Lakers overall record at 6-3 and drops them back to 3-1 in the TAAC (second place). Danbury were set to take on Cardinal Stritch Cardinals on Tuesday, Jan. 19. The Lakers won the first meeting by a score of 51-42. In junior varsity action, the Lakers were defeated by undefeated Toledo Christian by a score of 45-34. The Lakers were down one at halftime and were outscored by 10 in the third quarter. Leading the way for the Lakers was Dalton Chapman with nine points. Dakota Hruby and Lucas Kennedy each had six points and six rebounds. The Lakers are now 2-7 on the year.
