James L. Bretz, 81, of Middle Bass Island, died Thursday, August 14, 2008 at Edgewood Manor Nursing Center in Port Clinton. He was born December 17, 1926 on Middle Bass, the son of Leslie J. and Florence B. (Potts) Bretz.
Jim was a graduate of Port Clinton High School, and was the Postmaster on Middle Bass Island for many years. He operated rental cottages and houses on the island and was active in the Bretz Winery. He was a member of the St. Paul's Episcopal Church on Put-in--Bay and a member of the Retired Postmasters Association.
Surviving is a nephew, Richard L. Bretz of Hamilton, two great nieces and one great nephew and a sister-in- law Janette Bretz of Sandusky.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers-Walter C. and Richard H. Bretz.
Visitation was held Sunday, August 17 at the Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home, Port Clinton. Graveside services were Monday, August 18 at the LaFleur Cemetery on Middle Bass Island.
