| Port Clinton City School District Announces Flagship Award Winners |

The Flagship Awards are part of Port Clinton City School District’s recognition program to honor parents, community members, staff and students that help the district fulfill its motto of “Proudly Charting a Course for Success.” At the May 18 meeting the Port Clinton Board of Education recognized the following individuals with Flagship Awards. Crew Awards Strategic Planning Action Team Leaders: Kendra Van Doren & Sharon May – Preschool; Rod Miller & Carrie McGlothlin – Competitive Edge; Sue Parker & Donna Zielinski – Student Character; Bill Hollister & Dave Mehl – Partnerships; Lori Scalf & Mark Kelley – Educational Environment;
Travis Woodworth & Leigh Carroll – Staff Development; Kevin Lutz & Dennis Russo – Technology; Jeff Dornbusch & Bill Lowe – Revenue Generation; Terry Clark & Paul Shaw – Facilities; Jen Dackermann & Amy Drummer – Go Green. The aforementioned community and staff members all volunteered countless hours of their time to serve the district as Action Team Leaders for the Strategic Planning Process. They offered their expertise and knowledge in order to serve the Port Clinton City School District students and staff by directing the creation of Action Plans that will set the course of the district over the next five years. The Port Clinton City School District can only benefit by community & staff members stepping forth to serve their schools. The dedication and leadership of these individuals is greatly appreciated and will have an impact on this district for years to come.Octi Alvarado, Crew Award Octi has been a volunteer for the Port Clinton Athletic Program for years. He is a familiar face at most athletic events – selling 50-50 tickets, programs, handing out lollipops at basketball games and taking pictures. He takes numerous pictures to share with Port Clinton athletes at his own expense. In addition, he is always visible at Port Clinton Athletic Booster events. It just wouldn’t seem right without having Octi at Port Clinton athletic events. He is an important part of the Port Clinton City Schools and has dedicated countless hours to benefit students and the athletic program. Julie St. Leger, First Mate Award Julie St. Leger volunteers her time to work with kindergarten students in Mrs. Rosemarie Kuharick’s classroom on a regular basis. Julie teaches the young students Spanish. As a Middle School Spanish teacher, she lends her expertise to benefit these students. She can also be seen volunteering in various other aspects in the Port Clinton City Schools. Her willingness to volunteer her time not only benefits her two children, Kate & Alex, but numerous other children as well. Her commitment and dedication to children and education was recognized with a Flagship First Mate Award. Marcia Alt, Captain Award Marcia Alt greets students, staff, and parents at Jefferson Elementary School and goes far beyond what is required of her position. She is friendly and compassionate as well as exceptionally organized. She is also a reliable person at the school that parents, staff, and students can count on. Marcia never seeks recognition for all the extra hours she works at school or from home. She does it because she is a conscientious staff member who wants to do well for the district. Marcia Alt received the Flagship Captain Award for all her years of outstanding service and dedication to the Port Clinton City School District.
