Virginia Park, Ottawa County Recorder, has submitted her letter of retirement effective Oct. 31.
Park stated her reason is to lock in the benefits that she has accrued in 27 years working under that retirement system, and that, in order to do that, she needed to retire before January 1. When the state legislature changed public employee retirement laws this summer, it prompted thousands of workers across the state to retire before January.
Park is on the ballot for the Nov. 6 general election. Park stated in her letter to the County Commissioners , “I expect to be re-elected as Recorder in the general election for the term beginning 1/7/2013. It is my current intention to serve that full four-year term through January 2017, if possible.”
She is requesting the Commissioners appoint her “to serve in the interim position of Recorder until the Democratic Central Committee meets in special session to fill the un-expired term. I believe it is in the best interest of the citizens of Ottawa County for me to continue in the position during this time of transition.”
