Oak Harbor committee seeking donations for downtown revitalization

Earlier this year a group of volunteer business owners and residents formed the Oak Harbor Downtown Implementation Committee.

Their mission is to research, discuss and make recommendations to the Village Council for implementing the suggestions identified in the “Village of Oak Harbor Downtown Revitalization Plan.” The plan was approved and adopted by the Village Council in March of 2012.

The purpose of the plan is to position the downtown area to bolster the existing economic base and identify opportunities that will attract and accommodate future investment. Over the past several months, the committee has been meeting and discussing options to create the necessary amenities, atmosphere, land uses, organization and marketing & branding which will draw people back into the downtown district and promote new investment. The first focus is to spruce up the heart of downtown by improving the streetscape.

The committee recommended, and was approved by Village Council, a plan that includes purchasing new benches, flowerpots, and trash cans. Through partnership, they are seeking sponsors for the streetscape items to help defray the costs.

The sponsor’s name will be displayed on the item(s) with a plaque to recognize the sponsorship and commitment to the community.
