Ottawa County CASA and Joyful Connections report that teams are filling up fast for The Amazing Island Raise being held on South Bass Island on Saturday, June 15th. These two non-profit agencies serving local children are teaming up with this fun-filled event to raise funds Put-in-Bay style.
Teams will solve clues, complete challenges and win prizes while enjoying the fun and sun of Put-in-Bay. Teams of 4-6 adults will race against one another to see who has what it takes to be an Amazing Island Raise Champion.
Teams will ride the Miller Ferry to the Island where the clues and challenges will take place. Once the winner has been declared, the teams can remain on the Island to enjoy the rest of the day and return on the ferry when they are finished. The entry fee of $30 per person covers the cost of transportation to the island as well as a team t-shirt. The fun will begin at 11 a.m. and the group will depart for Put-in-Bay at noon. There will be a “warm-up” to the event on the ferry ride.
Joyful Connections is a supervised visitation and exchange center that provides a healthy, safe and homelike environment where children can interact with family members. According to Executive Director Ric Powers, “90 percent (of their visitation clients) come from court referrals, but if both parties agree, they can just contact Joyful Connections.” Powers also says that he also wants “to challenge the police departments and municipalities to utilize the services of Joyful Connections, rather than straining their resources and capabilities.”
Ottawa County CASA volunteers are appointed by the court to advocate for abused and neglected children. Executive Director Connie Cornett was in Columbus, saw Ohio CASA do a fundraiser similar to the Amazing Island Raise in the Columbus Short North area and thought “this is a perfect fit for Put-in-Bay.” She met with Put-in-Bay Chamber of Commerce’s Maggie Beckford and developed this event, “combining fun with history.” Cornett’s hope for this event is that “it will be great fun and draw attention to our charities.”
