American Red Cross of Ottawa County’s Club Red held the 7th Annual “Sherry & Chocolates” event Thursday evening at the home of Jim and Susan Finn on Catawba Island. The annual membership drive event entertained 85 guests and was hosted by Club Red founder Cindy Amerine. The evening featured a tour of “Rosecliff”, the picturesque Finn home. Guests also enjoyed the skit, “After the Glow,” performed by Miss America 1963, Jackie Mayer, along with Brian Dickman and Jeff Kearney.

Club Red Chair Karen Blizzard and Co-Chair Lynn Majce shared information about the ladies’ group and its mission to educate the public on the many Red Cross programs and services offered locally and across the country.  Many Club Red members have taken volunteer training courses and support our Armed Forces personnel and their families, assist in disaster and emergency relief, health and safety training, community blood drives and sit on local and regional Red Cross boards.

The event also heralded the upcoming “Boogie Woogie Bugle Girls of Company Red” Club Red Gala. The event Chair, Danis Putzbach, and Co-Chair, Carol Schemmer, reported that tickets are now on sale and going fast. The gala will be held Friday, July 19, at 6 p.m. at the Liberty Aviation Museum in Port Clinton. Dinner will be provided by Zinc Brasserie of Sandusky and musical entertainment by The Ohio State University Traveling Band. Tickets are $110 for this traditionally sold-out affair and seating is limited. Ticket requests can be made by contacting ticket chair Linda O’Brian at 419-797-7005 or the American Red Cross of Ottawa County at 419-734-1100 or This email address is being protected from spambots.
