Entertainment, activities announced for Appetite for the Arts

The 2013 Appetite for the Arts gala on Friday, August 16, at the Erie-Ottawa Regional Airport will be a “Red Carpet Affair,” with a preview of artists’ works, culinary delights, classic and collector cars and music by the Womack Family Band.

Those interested in attending the Aug. 16 ticketed preview event should buy tickets early, as organizers from the Greater Port Clinton Area Arts Council (GPCAAC) said last year’s event sold out. Tickets for Friday’s event are $35 and will be available online through www.portclintonarts.org and locally at Mary’s Blossom Shoppe, Bassett’s and Real Living Morgan Realty Group.

“This very popular event will truly be a ‘Red Carpet Affair,’ with art lovers sure to feel like stars themselves once they experience the art, food and music we have in store for them,” said Jeff Morgan, chair of this year’s event. “Friday night will kick off a great weekend of music, food and special activities for all ages.”

Beer and wine tasting will be offered Friday night by the Catawba Island Brewery, Mon Ami Winery and Firelands Winery. Featured restaurants and bakeries for the gala include 1812 Food & Spirits, Wendy Kromer, the Catawba Island Club, Cheesehaven, McCarthy’s, Rosie’s Bar & Grill and more.

The Womack Family Band, sponsored by Brand’s Marina, will entertain guests at the Friday evening soiree. The band has captivated audiences all over the eastern U.S. with their three-part vocal harmony, tight musicianship and old soul songwriting. Calling on the spirit of The Beatles, The Band, Paul Simon, and James Taylor, the group consisting of a brother and sister and two long-time friends combines the vibe of the 60’s-70’s songwriter with the roots of American folk, blues, jazz, country and rock music.

More than 70 artists are expected to participate in Appetite for the Arts (an event sponsored by Lake Erie Shores & Islands). Saturday, August 17, and Sunday, August 18, will be free and open to the public. Children of all ages will enjoy taking part in the Children’s Art Experience and Sunday’s Fly In/Drive In Pancake Breakfast with opportunities to fly in an airplane. Entertainment on Sunday includes the Naked Bacon Band, sponsored by Real Living Morgan Realty Group. Naked Bacon is an eclectic area quartet known for three-part vocal harmony and a diverse repertoire of alt-country, classic rock, pop and blues. Singer/songwriter Steve Hall will perform tasty covers and funny originals during the Pancake Breakfast.
