The Ottawa County Veterans Service Office is excited to announce the annual “Veterans Day at the Ottawa County Fair” on Saturday, July 20th. Complimentary cookies and coffee will be provided at 9:30 a.m., prior to opening ceremony.
Entrance is free for veterans, with identification. The opening ceremony kicks off at 10:30 a.m. in the Entertainment Tent. In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will be moved to building B3. American Legion Post 279 will provide the Color Guard and the National Anthem will be performed by John Boaz. Commander Gerald A. Nauert from United States Coast Guard, Port Security Unit 309, is the guest speaker; and Pastor Chuck Kaylor will be providing the Invocation and Benediction. Ottawa County Veteran of the Year 2012 Mr. Robert Paule is the Guest of Honor.
Immediately following the opening ceremony, a complimentary hamburger and/or hotdog lunch from Bar-B-Que Travelers will be provided to all veterans and their family (while food lasts) from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. in building B3. A Cornhole Tournament will begin at 1 p.m. with trophies awarded to the top 2 teams. Sign-up is limited to the first 10 teams. Children activities include sun hat and air plane decorating; patriotic tattoos and coloring contest (Age Groups 2-4; 5-7; 8-10; 11-13; and 14 up).
