OSS Solid Waste collections Sept. 21 and 28

Appliance and Scrap Metal 

On Saturday, Sept. 21, the OSS Solid Waste District will be sponsoring the Appliance Collection. District residents can bring their old appliances and scrap metal for recycling from 9 a..m. until 12 p.m. Materials from businesses will not be accepted. In Ottawa County the collection will be at the Ottawa Co. Fairgrounds, W. State Route 163, Oak Harbor. Items accepted include washing machines, dryers, ovens, stoves, hot water heaters, refrigerators, freezers, microwaves, dehumidifiers, furnaces, air conditioners, water fountains, etc.  Items made of steel, such as grills, lawn mowers, and propane tanks will also be accepted.  Televisions, computers and electronics will not be accepted at this collection.

Television and small Electronics 

On Saturday, Sept. 28, the Ottawa, Sandusky, Seneca Joint Solid Waste District is sponsoring the Television & Small Electronics recycling collection. This collection is for residents only. Materials from businesses will not be accepted.  The event will take place from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. at the Ottawa Co. Fairgrounds, W. State Route 163, Oak Harbor. 

Residents will be charged to recycle CRT (lead/glass tube) televisions. The fee associated with the service reflects a portion of the District’s cost and is based on contract pricing with the electronics recycler. To determine the size of your television, measure your screen diagonally from corner to corner.

Fees for televisions.

•  TV’s 24” & smaller - $2.00
•  TV’s 25” & larger - $3.00
•  All console units & projection screen TV’s (limit 2 per resident) - $5.00

Additional materials that will be accepted at no charge include small electronics (e.g. – computer equipment, dvd’s, vcr’s, stereos, etc.), flat panel televisions and cell phone equipment.  All electronics will be processed in the U.S. and all plastics, metals, and leaded and non-leaded glass materials will be recycled.  nly wood and fabric from the console and projection screen televisions will be landfilled. Additionally, lead and mercury will be removed domestically and handled under U.S. regulations.
