Bay Township launches Crime Watch program

The first meeting of Bay Township Crime Watch will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 23, at Bay Township Hall, 4471 W. Fremont Road, Port Clinton. The meeting will feature guests Sgt. Zach Bowling from the Ottawa County Sheriff’s department and security specialist Roger Kunz from North Coast Security.

“Our purpose is to create an awareness of our presence and observe and report all suspicious activity to the Sheriff's department,” says Mel McCord. “We are not law enforcement. Our tools are our eyes, ears and phones. Communication and observation are proven crime deterrents. We will have door decals for all who wish to participate. It is statistically proven that criminals avoid 'CRIME WATCH' communities.”

“This will be a good chance for us neighbors to meet each other as friends. The meeting should last about 90 minutes, giving us time to talk about how we can mutually prevent crime and better our township,” says McCord.

Refreshments will be served. For more information, call Mel McCord 419-341-6846.
