Jessie Schenk Turkey Chase has record turnout

The fourth annual Jessie Schenk Turkey Chase took place Saturday, Nov. 30, at the Catawba Island Club. Mike Schenk, father of Jessie, said that there were about 250 runners/walkers at the event which makes it the most they’ve ever had. In 2009, the Schenk’s lost their daughter and they set up a scholarship fund to help Port Clinton High School graduates who maintain a 3.2 or higher GPA and are also athletes. Jessie ran track and cross country at PCHS.

Before the race, Mike told attendees that they had already raised enough money at the event to provide four scholarships for the 2013-2014 school year. Mike instructed, as tradition, that each runner or walker turn to their neighbor and give them a hug before the race.
