Royce celebrates 80 years

Royce and her grandchildren

On Saturday, July 12, a large family reunion and 80th birthday party was held for Royce Ann Oliver (nee Hardy) at Touch of Italy Bed and Breakfast in Port Clinton. Royce is the mother of Deborah Pufnock, owner of the Bed and Breakfast, and Linda Sleasman, of Amherst. Family members came from Tennessee, Twinsburg, Amherst, and Cleveland.

Royce suffered a second brain bleed on December 8 of 2013, and is on her way to recovery. She has 13 great grandchildren and all were present with the exception of: her oldest great-grandchild, Jordan, who was in Costa Rica for the second time on a mission trip; Lizzie, 17, who is in Tennessee, and Jakob who is serving in the United States Marine Corps.

Royce has endured a number of major tragedies in her life including the loss of three children and her husband of over 50 years. She has remained an incredible inspiration to her entire family through it all and her faith in God Has kept her going, she says. We could not have asked for more perfect weather for the party, and I would like to thank the neighbors Mildred, Elizabeth and Nate for loaning the tent canopy, chairs and tables. I would also like to thank Chefs Best Catering in Port Clinton for doing an outstanding job of delivering food for all three days. They are very professional and the food was excellent. What a great celebration of her life.
