Cardboard boat race set for Saturday

Anchor’s Away Marina is holding its annual Cardboard Craft Race for Critters at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 4.
Groups are invited to build a boat out of cardboard and compete to see which captain makes it farthest “out to sea” before sinking. Proceeds benefit the animals at the Humane Society of Ottawa County.

Chicken barbecue Sunday in Marblehead

St. Joseph Catholic Church will be hosting its annual Chicken Barbecue from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, July 29. The chicken will be prepared by the Bar-B-Que Traveler. Dinner includes half-chicken, baked potato with butter and sour cream, vegetable and coleslaw.
The cost is $8 for adults or $5.50 for children under 12 (quarter-chicken dinner). Carry-out service is available. Tickets will be available at the door. The church is located at 822 Barclay St., Marblehead.

Ottawa County Fair names art winners

Ottawa County Fair School Art Exhibit ribbons were issued to the following students throughout Ottawa County. The School Art Exhibit is coordinated through the efforts of B. Jean Fanning and Sandra Butzin from North Point Educational Service Center and with the support of the Ottawa County Cabinet of Superintendents (Diane Kershaw/Guy Parmigian, Benton-Carroll-Salem Local; Patrick Adkins, Port Clinton City;  Daniel Parent, Danbury Local; Dennis Mock, Genoa Area Local; Douglas Crooks, North Point E.S.C.; and John Fernbaugh/Linda Bringman, Woodmore Local).
