Quarter Madness raises funds for Relay for Life

Last week Quarter Madness was held at Riverview Healthcare Campus as a fundraiser for Ottawa County Relay for Life. A paddle could be purchased for $5 and any additional paddle for $1. The more paddles a person had, the more chances to win. There were four rounds of bidding. Each round you enter a quarter to bid and your number is added into a drawing for the item. The items were donated or for sale by the vendors.

The event was sponsored by Riverview All Stars relay for life team. At the Quarter Madness there was also a bake sale, food, Relay for Life t-shirts and water bottles for sale. Vendors in attendance included Thirty One, Pure Romance, Paparazzi, Origami Owl, Jerky Direct, Premier Design Jewelry, The Gourmet Cupboard, Miche, J.R. Watkins, Advocare, Avon, Tupperware, Kat's Coffee, and It Works.

Port Clinton Photography Club holds Awards Night

On May 22, Port Clinton Photography Club held their annual Awards Night, election of officers and selection of summer projects. This was the last meeting for the Club until September. From September through May, the Club meets the fourth Wednesday of each month at Trinity United Methodist Church in Port Clinton.

First Place Black and White went to Marilyn Reeder. First Place Color went to Tammy Shanahan. First Place Nature went to Chris Sheldon. Best of Show went to Tom Liskai.

Peace Among Nations art exhibition in Columbus

In honor of the Bicentennial of the War of 1812, Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial along with several of its partners will sponsor “Peace Among Nations—The Lasting Legacy of the War of 1812 Art Exhibition” at the James A. Rhodes State Office Tower in Columbus starting June 3, according to Blanca Alvarez Stransky, Superintendent of Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial.

Ottawa County Relay for Life on Saturday

Oak Harbor High School is hosting this year’s Ottawa County Relay for Life. The event starts at 6 p.m. on Friday, June 7, and goes until 12 p.m. on Saturday, June 8. The Relay for Life is more than just doing laps around the track; it’s about remembering those who have lost their battle with cancer, it’s about bringing awareness to the disease, and about empowering those still fighting to survive.

Marblehead Lighthouse tours have begun

Marblehead Lighthouse tours have begun. Tours are offered by the East Harbor Naturalist and volunteers as follows for 2013:

  • Weekdays (Monday-Friday) between now and Friday, Aug. 30 from noon until 3:45 p.m.
  • Sunday evenings until Aug. 25 from 4-5:45 p.m.
  • Second Saturday of the month between June and October from 11 a.m. until 3:45 p.m.

There is a $2 fee for adults and children ages 6 and up • Children under age 6 are free

The museum located in the Keeper's House and operated by the Marblehead Lighthouse Historical Society, is open whenever the tower is open
