Fireworks need a spark

The cornerstone to any 4th of July celebration is, without doubt, a professional fireworks display viewed by family, friends and the community.  Unfortunately, members of the Port Clinton Area 4th of July Celebration Committee are concerned that such a display may not take place this year due to the lack of necessary funding.   

According to event chairman Mike Snider, both funds and time are running short this year.  “We have to let the fireworks company know if we are a go by May 1st.  Unfortunately right now we only have $4200 of the $8000 needed to put on this year’s fireworks display.”

Facts and Snacks

Home Instead Senior Care and Heartland Home Health and Hospice will be hosting a “Facts and Snacks” program for the Ottawa County community. The focus of event, which will be held the first Tuesday of the month, is to give the community continuing education about various topic surrounding aging. The “Facts and Snacks” program will be held at Riverview Healthcare Campus, 8180 West State Route 163, Oak Harbor. Participants can attend at 10 a.m. or 6 p.m. in the Multipurpose Room, side A.

Oak Harbor begins plans for revitalization project

Many small towns in northwest Ohio are nice places to live and raise a family, but most of them do not feature much by way of allure or appeal.

There are some small communities in this region, albeit a few, that are known for their pizzazz and panache. Towns like Elmore, Marblehead and Archbold come to mind.

The residents of Oak Harbor are looking to join that select group by giving the village something of a facelift in order to increase its awareness and appeal to passersby.

St. Boniface holds spring fling

St. Boniface Catholic School will host the annual Spring Fling on Saturday, April 27, 3 at 6 p.m. at the school gymnasium at 215 Oak St., Oak Harbor. Advance tickets are $25 per person, or a table for 10 for $200. Adult beverages and sodas will be available. 

The evening includes a dinner of chicken and /or ham, green beans, cheesy potatoes, rolls and butter and our famous St. Boniface apple pie. There will be a live DJ, silent auctions, live auctions of hand made treasures by each class,  raffles, a $500 Gas for Cash Bonanza drawing and a chance to be a contestant on “Let’s Make a Deal”.

Downtown Scavenger Hunt

A Scavenger Hunt is planned for Saturday, April 6, from noon until 4 pm. in downtown historic Port Clinton.  Families and friends are encouraged to create a team and participate in this family-friendly event.  What a great way to visit our downtown retail shops, restaurant, and service businesses.  Prizes will be given for first, second and third place. All competing teams who complete the Scavenger Hunt will be entered in to win Chamber gift certificates.
