Reading program spreads to Genoa, Oak Harbor

The United Way’s Reading Tutor Program is growing to cover Genoa and Oak Harbor. New tutor training is scheduled for 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Aug. 28 and Sept. 5. Read to the kids so their test scores can continue to rise.

Sky is theme for Oak Harbor VBS

A summer kids’ event called Sky will be hosted at The United Methodist Church of Oak Harbor from Monday through Friday, Aug. 6-10. At Sky, faith and imagination soar as kids discover that everything is possible with God. Kids participate in memorable Bible-learning activities, sing catchy songs, play teamwork-building games, make and dig into yummy treats, experience electrifying Bible adventures, collect Bible Memory Buddies to remind them to trust God and test out sciency-fun gizmos they’ll take home and play with all summer long. Plus, kids will learn to look for evidence of God all around them through something called God Sightings.

Support Stein Hospice at tailgate party

Enjoy an entertaining evening Wednesday, Aug. 1, at the Catawba Island Club and support Stein Hospice. The event begins at 6 p.m. and includes tailgate food, wines, craft beers, a performance by members of The Ohio State Marching Band and a live auction. Guests are encouraged to wear tailgate attire to support their favorite school.

Chamber plans second Village-Wide garage sale

In response to several requests from the public, the Oak Harbor Area Chamber of Commerce has decided to add a second Village Wide Garage Sale Days this year. The chamber will be creating a list of sales for anyone interested and the sale dates will be Aug. 24-25. The lists will then be available at the chamber office and Oak Harbor Public Library starting Aug. 23.

Ice cream social set for local candidates

There will be an ice cream social campaign fundraiser for Ottawa County Candidates Dr. Dan Cadigan, coroner, and John Huffman and Jodi Regal, commissioner, at 6:30 p.m. Monday, July 30, at the home of Dan and Amy Laity, 18190 W. Portage River South, Elmore.
Toft’s ice cream will be served along with a variety of tasty toppings. Sugar free selections will also be available.
All interested voters are invited to attend and learn more about these candidates. Any donations toward the campaigns will be accepted.
