Port Clinton City Beach and Lakeview Park cleanup April 22

Earth Day was first celebrated April 22, 1970.  This day has been set aside each year to recognize our Earth and promote greater environmental awareness through education, action, and celebration.  To commemorate this day the Port Clinton Recreation Department and the OSS Solid Waste District will once again be sponsoring the Port Clinton City Beach and Park Cleanup. The cleanup will be held on Saturday, April 20,  beginning at 9a.m. Volunteers are needed and are asked to report to the Lakeview Park Shelter House with gloves, rakes, and lots of energy.

Nature and nautical items and volunteers needed for MLHS

The Marblehead Lighthouse Historical Society members are planning their annual Nature and Nautical sale for July 13. The sale has always been very popular and a good source of income for the MLHS. 

The MLHS is asking for help this year in collecting nature and/or nautical items for the sale. Any handcrafted items would be greatly appreciated, as are any items of a nature or nautical theme that are nearly new. Call Mary at 419-798-4877 to arrange pick-up of items.

Main Street Port Clinton announces Scavenger Hunt winners

The first annual Main Street Port Clinton Scavenger Hunt was held on April 6.  Families and friends created teams to participate in this family-friendly event.  The teams had to visit 32 downtown businesses and correctly photograph the item based upon the clues.  Prizes donated from downtown businesses were awarded for first, second and third place. All competing teams were also entered to win Chamber gift certificates.

From Wall Street to Main Street at Ida Rupp

The Port Clinton Area Chamber of Commerce and Ida Rupp Public Library will be hosting a free workshop titled “From Wall Street to Main Street: Myths, Miscues and Investment Fundamentals”, presented by Allison Falls, CFA, scheduled for Tuesday, April 23 at the library.  Registration is at 8:30 a.m. with the workshop beginning at 9 a.m.  To register, contact the Chamber at 419-734-5503.

From the Bench

As part of my ongoing efforts to share with you the duties of the Ottawa County Court of Common Pleas, today I will explain some of the basic aspects of the Domestic Relations Court.

As I have previously explained, there are four divisions of the Common Pleas Courts in the State of Ohio: the General Division, the, the Domestic Relations Division, the Juvenile Division, and the Probate Division. In larger counties, there are separate judges for each of those divisions and in many instances several judges assigned to each of those Divisions. In Ottawa County, Judge Geisler is in charge of the Juvenile Court and Probate Court, while I am assigned to the General Division and Domestic Relations Division.
