Firefighter Phil and Officer Phil teach valuable lessons at ICS

The students at Immaculate Conception had the opportunity to participate in two different assembly programs on Wednesday.

The younger students in grades K, 1, and 2 had the chance to see the Firefighter Phil program which taught them the proper steps to follow in the case of a fire. Lessons like “stop, drop, cover, and roll” and “get out and stay out” were combined with magic, a puppet show and comedy to make the message fun and memorable. Fire Chief Kent Johnson was on hand to help answer questions about fire safety. The children were given the homework assignment of going home and checking with Mom and Dad as to the location of an emergency meeting spot and the changing of smoke detector batteries.

Retirement, succession plans: "Must Haves" for business owners

If you own a business, you may well follow a “do it now” philosophy — which is, of course, necessary to keep things running smoothly. Still, you also need to think about tomorrow — which means you’ll want to take action on your own retirement and business succession plans.

Fortunately, you’ve got some attractive options in these areas. For example, you could choose a retirement plan that offers at least two key advantages: potential tax-deferred earnings and a wide array of investment options. Plus, some retirement plans allow you to make tax-deductible contributions.
