Mueller throws a no-hitter in Redskins’ win over Rockets

Despite getting a no-hitter from Kate Mueller, the Port Clinton Redskins softball team had to eke out a 2-1 victory over rival Oak Harbor in Sandusky Bay Conference action last week.

Mueller, who went the distance while allowing one run on no hits to go with eight strikeouts and three walks, allowed a run in the first inning and Port Clinton found itself down, 1-0, in the top of the seventh before rallying to get the win.

The 'Skins first three hitters, Molly Haberman, Emily Ashley and Amber Wuersig, reached base to begin the seventh inning, two of them on base hits and the other on an error that could have been ruled a hit. The next two hitters failed to deliver before Allie Schroeder connected on a base hit up the middle to score two runs and give Port Clinton the lead for good.

In the bottom half of the inning, Theresa Stokes got the Rockets going with a walk and was bunted to second by Kimmi Wahlers, who was thrown out at first. However, Stokes decided to try and advance to third and Paige Culver hit Wuersig with the throw to beat Stokes by a hair for the second out. The third out was recorded when Tiffany Colston made a running catch into the fence of the Oak Harbor dugout.
