OSHAA mandatory parent meeting at Danbury

Danbury will be hosting its mandatory parent meeting on Monday, August 5th, beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the Auditorium. This is a required meeting for all middle school and high school athletes that are participating in a fall sport.


Lions Club food tent at Arts in the Park

Port Clinton Lions Club food tent will be at Arts in the Park on Aug. 3 and 4. Proceeds from sales at the food tent will go to The Lions Club’s community projects, such as buying eye glasses for adults and children in need.


PC Little Leaguers have a successful season

Port Clinton #2 Little Leaguers, sponsored by Cheesehaven, were Lakeshore League 12-U regular season champions with a 15-5 record and finished 3rd in the season end tournament. Team members were Kertis Johnson, Dylan Johnson, Austin Sabo, William Snyder, Eric Wammes, Lohany Arambula, Caden Swander,Braeden Kelley, Braeden George, Morgan Mallory, Jose Rangel III, Kyle Coleman, Mason McDougall and  Lymon Brown. Coaches were Jose Rangel II and Kent Coleman.

An often discussed aspect of criminal cases is the insanity defense and competency to stand trial. We have all watched television shows, read books, or heard a story about a criminal who beat the system, claimed insanity and walked out of the courtroom scot free. In reality, individuals who claim insanity or incompetency, rarely, if ever, walk out of court “scot free.” In the Ottawa County Common Pleas Court, as well as most other criminal courts, we are presented with two separate standards and defenses.

Cooking up a career at EHOVE

EHOVE Adult Career Center Culinary program graduate Mary Magyar (Bellevue)

EHOVE Adult Career Center is now accepting applications for their Adult Professional Culinary Program.  

The culinary students learn the basics of professional cooking.  They start with knife skills including how to use different knives and how to cut meats, vegetables, fish, etc.  They also learn basic cooking skills including meat cookery, starches, vegetables, soups, sauces, baked goods, and desserts.  Students work on seasonings and international cooking as well. Students will also learn professionalism and employability skills.


Club Red fundraiser fills the Liberty Aviation Museum

On Friday evening the Liberty Aviation Museum in Port Clinton transported attendees back in time to World War II. Club Red sponsored the fundraiser for the Red Cross in Ottawa County disaster relief efforts. Photos by John Schaffner.

Ohio Wildlife Council approves early migratory game bird hunting seasons

The Ohio Wildlife Council approved the state's 2013-2014 early migratory game bird hunting seasons at its scheduled meeting on Wednesday, July 17, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR). Sept. 1 kicks off the state’s bird hunting seasons for mourning dove, Canada goose, rail, moorhen and snipe.

New this year, bag limits for Canada geese and teal have increased, and possession limits after the second day of hunting have increased for all migratory game bird species.

Ohio's dove season is Sept. 1-Oct. 21 and Dec. 15-Jan. 2, 2014, with a daily limit of 15 birds and a possession limit of 45 birds after the second day.


CIC tailgate for Stein Hospice

Enjoy an entertaining evening Wednesday, August 7, at the Catawba Island Club and support Stein Hospice. The event begins at 6 p.m. and includes tailgate food, wines, craft beers, a performance by members of The Ohio State Pep Band and a live auction. Guests are encouraged to wear tailgate attire to support their favorite school.

Cost is $90 per person. Tickets can be purchased at the Catawba Island Club, 4235 E. Beachclub Rd., Port Clinton, or by calling 800-625-5269. Tickets will also be sold at the door.
