A heart-warming thank you is in store for Kaye Tibbel, her family and the many volunteers for putting on a very special day for the veterans in the Catawba area. These folk provided their boats, time and energy to take us fishing and also fed us a wonderful deep fried walleye and perch dinner with beverages included.
Each one of us was greeted at registration with a hand shake and a thank you for your service guesture. A local VFW chapter was on hand to offer a somber ceremony conducted at an empty chair, table with a white cloth, white candle with a black ribbon, picture frame, Bible and other articles to commemorate our MIA-POW veterans; very touching.
Apparently this day came to be when Jack Tibbel, before his passing, asked one of his young grandsons what he could do to honor our veterans. The boy replied “take them fishing”. What a great thing to do!
The only thing that wasn’t great was that the perch didn’t cooperate! Fishin’ is fishin’, but not always catchin’!
