200th Red Horse thank you

During the recent water crisis, I had the pleasure of working with the 200th Red Horse Squadron from Camp Perry, the 200th Red Horse Detachment and 178th Medical Group out of Mansfield, and the 371st Army Guard out of Newark. These fine men and women mobilized and were producing potable water in just a few hours at three sites in the Toledo area. With the help of many tanker fire trucks from all over Northwest Ohio we produced over 57,000 gallons of potable water from quarry water.

These Guardsmen quickly volunteered to work 12 hour shifts for the duration of the crisis. I am proud to say the people of Toledo greeted them with smiling faces, positive attitude and lots of rewards of food. As a Public Health Officer based in Mansfield and a resident of Toledo, it was a pleasure to work with these National Guardsmen, local law enforcement, firefighters, and for the people of the greater Toledo Metropolitan area.

Major Alan Kao, D.V.M
Public Health Officer 179th Medical Group

Response to Mayor Brown

After reading our ex-mayor’s letting in The Beacon (July 17, 2014) I must say, I enjoyed it very much. May you continue to write letters to the editor. In today’s world, we hardly ever have anything to laugh about, but your letters are always a welcome sight when I read the sound offs.

I really had to laugh when you said “people of Port Clinton, we need to keep our children here with jobs.” What kind of jobs, Mr. Brown? Cleaning condos, mowing their grass, shoveling their snow? Are you really serious?

Even our mayor said “if those condos are only full three months a year, that’s okay”. Three months a year. Citizens, are you beginning to see flashing red lights?
