Mole Day at Port Clinton High School

Port Clinton High School students Aaron Lockhart and Dennis Elias measure a mole of aluminum foil to create a mole foil sculpture on Oct. 23, Mole Day at PCHS.

Oct. 23 was Mole Day at Port Clinton High School. Not a day honoring a small burrowing animal, but a day declared by Chemistry teacher Mrs. Nichole Wiechman to celebrate Avogadro’s number  6.02 x 1023.

Math Madness at PCMS

Port Clinton Middle School students, Zoe Hines and Samantha Sneider, yell out their answers during the Math Madness competition. Mr. Ron Aukerman, PCMS STEM (Science Technology Engineering & Math) teacher served as the judge of the competition.

Edgewood Manor hosts Trick or Treat

First place winner McKenna Sullivan, the candy fairy

Super heroes, fairy princesses, goblins, skeletons, clowns, witches, pirates, vampires and a variety of other creatures descended upon Edgewood as the afternoon’s festivities began.  Residents sat in their doorways holding pumpkin buckets overflowing with candy as trick or treaters went up and down the halls gathering their bounty.  As the costumed characters passed by each person, two or three special goodies were dropped into their containers.  Excitement flowed from the children as they filled their bags while the residents smiled with delight at each little one’s outfit.

Riverview Healthcare Campus Trick or Treat

Riverview residents passing out treats.

Sunday evening the 13th Annual Riverview Healthcare Campus Trick or Treat was held. Hundreds of children trick or treated from the hundred residents at Riverview, enjoyed trick or treat story time and movies, visited the haunted basement that benefited the Relay For Life Team and made special Halloween greetings for residents. There was a pumpkin carving contest with proceeds benefitting Riverview nurse Sarah William’s run in St. Jude Hospital’s Glass Slipper Run.

Snow for Devin

Today, Wednesday Oct. 30, it snowed outside of 218 Second Street in Port Clinton. I think an interaction between PC Mayor, Vince Leone, the PC police chief, Rob Hickman and I sums up what’s been happening around Port Clinton these last few days.

Cupp: “So who made this event happen today?”
Mayor Leone: “The community made this happen…”
Chief Hickman: “… No, Devin made this happen.”

ICS After School Art Program

Joni Hoffman, the art teacher at Immaculate Conception School, inspires her students to love art so much that they want to come back after school and create. And create is what they do. Immaculate Conception School held its first meeting/work session of the all new Art Club this past Wednesday afternoon. The art club is made up of students in grades 2, 3, 4, and 5 and will meet once a month in the school’s art room.  Each monthly meeting will explore a new era, style, or artistic idea. October’s class featured crafts made with duct tape. The students were encouraged to make whatever they wished out of the utility tape that comes in a variety of fun colors and prints. Alyssa Diaz made a mask of Medusa. Madison Weichman, Paige Reineck, and Ella Roberts chose to fashionably cover the letters in their initials. Savannah Nyang even covered a small lamp with the colorful tape.  The imaginations in the ICS Art Club are sure to soar and take their curiosity and creativity to new levels throughout this school year.
