Lake Erie Solo Challenge

I am absolutely amazed and touched by the interest and support I got during the Lake Erie Solo Challenge. This was the most difficult thing I’ve ever done.  I was expecting it to be difficult; it is supposed to be difficult, and not everyone is expected to complete it.  One sailor was making his third attempt. The physical, mental, and psychological challenges pushed every limit I had.  However, the rewards were commensurate.  I’m not exaggerating to say that it was a profound experience and I learned a tremendous amount, about single-handing, sailing in general and about myself.

How to Net a Fish

Jordan, Rick and Chase

Until yesterday, I had never given it a second thought that someone might not know how to net a fish. I sometimes forget that what comes as second nature to me is a very new experience to someone else and can be quite challenging. I thought I would share this experience with all of you in the hope it is helpful.

3 on 3 basketball tournament and picnic benefits Conestoga West End

The Conestoga West End held their annual 3 on 3 basketball tournament and neighborhood picnic on Saturday, Aug. 24. The event,  in conjunction with United Way in Ottawa County, raised money for the Conestoga West End neighborhood. The year before last the event raised enough money to purchase new backboards and basketball poles for the backboards. This year organizers hoped to raise money towards a new basketball court, playground equipment, a shelter house and maybe even a splash pad for the park.
