How to save money and make a crawler harness at home

A popular bait to troll with on Lake Erie from late spring to early fall is the crawler harness. You’ll pay upwards of $3-$5for some pre-tied crawler harnesses in the local sporting good stores and bait shops, but you can make them yourself for pennies on the dollar right in your own home. All that is needed are some beads, hooks, line, clevises, and little baggies. I’m going to share with you how I build my harnesses, so you can easily build them too. 


All Classics Festival to be held in Huron

The Lyman Boat Owners Association (LBOA) will host the 14th Annual All Classics Festival on August 17 at the Huron Boat Basin.  Owners and enthusiasts of antique and classic boats of all makes and models and antique cars of all makes and models are encouraged to participate in the event or attend as spectators.

Lakeside Symphony Orchestra with Pointe of Departure Ballet

The Lakeside Symphony Orchestra (LSO) will perform its 13th concert with the Pointe of Departure Ballet Company in the Annual Iva M. Clark Memorial Concert at 8:15 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, in Hoover Auditorium. 

This exciting group of dancers, led by Karen Gabay and Raymond Rodriguez, will perform a delightful program including some of the most colorful dances in the ballet repertoire. The program will open with the Polovetsian Dances from Alexander Borodin’s opera “Prince Igor.”  Written for a full orchestra, the dances contain the exotic colors of Polovetsians, descendants from central Asia. 


A Day on the Wild Side

On Thursday, July 25, Winous Point hosted the fourth annual Day on the Wild Side. Winous Point is a private hunt and shooting club that also houses students and researchers on its 5000 acres on Sandusky Bay south of Port Clinton. In operation since 1856, Winous Point is the oldest hunt club in the United States. On Thursday it was open to the public for children grades 5-9 to attend a day at the marsh.


Abby Paskvan in Oak Harbor for concert in October

17-year old recording artist Abby Paskvan will be presenting a concert on Sunday, Oct. 6, at 4p.m. at St. Paul United Church of Christ in Oak Harbor.

Paskvan, who released her first CD in 2010, has recently been voted top five for "New Soloist of the Year" by fans of the Singing News Magazine and has been named top ten "Christian Country Female Artist of the Year" by SGN Scoops Digital Magazine.


The Salvation Army offers Tools for School program

The Salvation Army-Port Clinton Service Unit is now accepting applications for the Tools for School program, which assists local families in need of school supplies and book bags.   

Applications for this program can be picked up at The Salvation Army Office at The Sutton Center, at the Jobs and Family Services office, at Ida Rupp Library, Oak Harbor Library and Genoa Library. Completed applications should be dropped off at The Salvation Army Office located in suite #800 at The Sutton Center.


Ribbon Cutting for Executive Cleaners and discounts Aug. 2

The Port Clinton Area Chamber of Commerce (PCACC) is pleased to announce the grand re-opening of Executive Cleaners located at 1400 E. Perry Street in Port Clinton.  The PCAAC will hold a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on Friday, Aug. 2 at 1 p.m. Light refreshments will be served.

Port Clinton Art Walk “Eco-Green Sculptures”

Thursday, July 2, downtown Port Clinton held the Greater Port Clinton Area Arts Council Eco-Green Sculptures Art Walk. The great weather brought many people downtown for the event. The theme for this Art Walk encouraged artists to create with recycled materials.
