The Ohio Rifle and Pistol Association will hold Pop-Up Shoots at Camp Perry on Labor Day weekend. Rifle will be Saturday, Sept. 1., with pistol set for Sunday, Sept. 2.
These pop-up shoots are held on the MRFR Range for rifle (located just forward of the parking lot on Viale Range and Young Range) and on the Combat Pistol Range for Pistol (located behind the CMP Airgun Complex).
The course of fire for both events is 40 shots at 40 pop-up silhouette targets.
The targets are computer controlled for both ranges with built-in pauses for reloading. For rifle, the pause is after 20 targets, for pistol, every seven or eight targets. The silhouettes are positioned at 50 meters to 300 meters for rifle and 7 meters to 30 meters for pistol. Several stages will show multiple targets at the same time. Perfect scores are rare.
Registration begins at 8 a.m. and firing begins at 9 a.m. each day. Shooting will continue until organizers can no longer fill relays. Many shooters choose to shoot several relays, sometimes back to back, sometimes with a relay in between.
Be advised that while it is not necessary to show up first thing in the morning, the later you arrive, the harder it is to space time between relays if you wish to do that. Squadding is done on a first-come, first-served basis.
Cost is $10 per relay for ORPA members or $15 per relay for non-members. Membership can be purchased at the shoot for $25.
