Great Egret Marsh Preserve opens near East Harbor

On May 10, International Migratory Bird Day, another jewel was added to Ottawa County’s necklace of wetland preserves along the Lake Erie shoreline. The Great Egret Marsh Preserve, managed by The Nature Conservancy, consists of more than 150 acres of marsh and surrounding upland across the road from East Harbor State Park.

East Harbor hosts Friday Night Music Fest

East Harbor State Park will be hosting a Friday night Music Fest. The first event will be Friday, May 23, from 6-8:30 p.m., in front of the Camp Store. The band Classic Trendz will play for free, but will accept donations. The event is open to the public. Visitors are asked to park in the grass parking lot near the Camp Store.

Classic Trendz is a two piece vocal duo that sings up-beat hits. They are popular in this area and have a busy schedule.

Pizza, snacks, beverages and Toft’s ice cream will be available for purchase at the Camp Store.

5K Run/Walk at East Harbor June 7

The tenth annual Friends Run will be held at East Harbor State Park in Marblehead on Saturday, June 7. The run/walk is sponsored by the Friends of East Harbor and is an annual fund raising event for the park. 

The course is fast and flat, excellent for first timers and families, as well as for seasoned runners. 

Registration begins at 8 a.m., and the run begins at 9 a.m. Early registration must be postmarked by May 26. Race forms are available at the East Harbor Camp Store, at firelandsarearunners.org or at Jody Did It in Marblehead, or by calling Jody at 419.656.7144.
