Marsha Bordner, Crew Award (Community) — Bordner became the President of Terra Community College in 2003.  Since that time she has formed a friendship and a partnership with the Port Clinton City School District and the community.

In 2006, Bordner firmly supported the school district and Terra Music Faculty by forming a partnership to bring performances back to the PCHS Performing Arts Center stage.  Under the direction of Michael Shirtz, these concerts are very popular with the community.  She shared her expertise as a member of the Port Clinton City School District Strategic Planning Team in 2008.  Perhaps her most important partnership was the one that allowed Port Clinton High School students to earn college credits while still in high school.  Dr. Bordner and Terra were the first college to share the school district’s vision to bring college classes into the classrooms of our high school through Post Secondary Educational Option Courses. PSEO courses through Terra allow students to earn college credits without leaving PCHS.
Bordner will retire in June 2012.  The Board of Education wished her a Happy Retirement knowing the partnership she created with Port Clinton City Schools will continue to impact the education of Port Clinton students and the arts in our community.
Cathy Hiller, First Mate Award (Captain) — Hiller has many roles … parent, volunteer coach, booster treasurer.  Hiller is the mother of Kevin, a senior, and Erin, grade 6. Throughout her children’s education, Hiller has been extremely involved in all of their activities, however, her involvement does not benefit her children alone. She has been a volunteer youth soccer and softball coach.   She has organized team feeds for the SBC Championship Golf Team and the Redskin Baseball team.  For the past four years, Hiller has served as the treasurer of the Port Clinton Athletic Boosters, assisting with many of their activities including program sales, 50/50 sales and the Reverse Raffle.
Hiller is one of those parents that goes above and beyond to make Port Clinton athletic programs strong, especially the countless hours she puts in to help the youngest athletes.   Her hard work benefits so many students and coaches.  The Port Clinton Board of Education presented Cathy Hiller with a Flagship First Mate Award for her dedicated service to the students of Port Clinton City Schools.
Kathy Cheney, Captain Award (Staff) — Cheney’s job as a breakfast server may be “small” in hours, but it is huge in the impact on district students. Cheney serves breakfast to Port Clinton Middle School and Jefferson Elementary Students each school day.  She provides a positive influence every morning with a bright smile and cheerful voice that starts each day right for hundreds of students.
Cheney refers to all the students she serves each morning as “my kids” and she often proclaims “I just love my kids!”  While Cheney truly appreciates the students, and the students at Port Clinton Middle School and Jefferson Elementary are just as lucky to have to such a wonderful person help start their school day.  She is a dedicated and reliable staff member, not missing a day of work since 2009.
Cheney, provides wonderful service to students by starting their morning with sunshine, regardless of the weather outside.
