Port Clinton City School students will be in session on Friday, Feb.28. This date was originally planned as a waiver day for staff in-service training with no school for students. Since the date has been approved by the state as a waiver day, it cannot be counted as a make-up day, so all make up days will still be added to the end of the school year. As of Feb.11, two days will be added to the end of the school year.
Patrick Adkins, Superintendent of Schools stated, “We have missed so many instructional days with our students, it is more valuable for our students to be in school that day, more important than the staff training we had originally planned, even though it doesn’t officially count as a makeup day.”
Changes are still being made to the proposed state legislation regarding snow days in Ohio so it is unclear how it will impact Port Clinton City Schools.
Mr. Adkins added, “Whether or not the State of Ohio approves additional calamity days, we believe it is the best decision educationally for our students to be in the classroom.”
For families of students that have made vacation plans for the extended weekend, Port Clinton City Schools does allow for five vacation days that are excused absences. Vacation request forms can be found at the school district website, www.pccsd.net, then click on the “Parents” link and Vacation Requests can be found under “Forms and Fees”.
