The Harry Stensen Memorial Fund recently made a $10,000 donation to Terra State Community College for an endowed scholarship fund to assist Port Clinton High School graduates with their studies at the college.
“This is the first scholarship fund we have that specifically benefits Port Clinton students,” said Lisa Williams, Executive Director of the Terra College Foundation. “We are so appreciative to those who have been instrumental in this donation.”
Stensen was a Port Clinton gas and oil distributor who was active in his community and known for his behind-the-scenes involvement with many local organizations. The memorial fund was established by Stensen to further medical, educational, art and charitable causes in the Port Clinton area.
“(Terra State) provides a very meaningful service to the citizens of that area and we feel it represents the same public spirit and dedication to the well-being of the Port Clinton area that Mr. Stensen demonstrated in establishing this trust,” according to a statement from KeyBank National Association which administers the trust.
Just this past spring, 178 students with Port Clinton addresses were enrolled at Terra State.
The Terra College Foundation provides more than $60,000 a year in scholarships to Terra State students.
“When you consider that more than half of our students receive financial aid, it’s easy to see that the need for scholarship dollars is critical,” Williams said. “For many students, scholarships make the difference between attending college or not. Mr. Stensen’s generosity will make an impact.”
Terra State students who graduated from Port Clinton High School are encouraged to apply for the Stensen Memorial Fund Scholarship.
