Oak Harbor falls to Ottawa-Glandorf, 34-17

Ultimately, Oak Harbor’s mistakes did them in.

Despite hanging with Ottawa-Glandorf for much of the game, four Rocket turnovers were the difference in their 34-17 loss to the Titans on Friday at the Launchpad. 

Oak Harbor raced out to a 10-3 lead after running back Andrew Heberling scored on a 65-yard touchdown run midway thru the second quarter, but Ottawa-Glandorf responded by scoring 21 unanswered points, taking a 17-10 lead into the half before scoring on the first possession of the third quarter to go ahead 24-10.

Rockets hope new-look offense will lift them to new heights

After going 20-10 over a three-year span from 2010-12, the Oak Harbor Rockets regressed last season, finishing 5-5, but there are reasons to believe that Oak Harbor can bounce back this year. 

The team returns 14 starters and is led by a versatile group of 16 seniors that features a combination of strong, imposing lineman as athletes that are capable of making big plays. Head coach Mike May is hoping that the new offense he’s installed will allow his backs and receivers to get out into space and wreak havoc on the defense.

Rockets defeat Redskins Tuesday

Oak Harbor JV defeated Port Clinton Tuesday, August 26, in two games: 25-15 and 25-20. Oak Harbor varsity team won in four games: 20-25, 25-17, 25-16 and 25-21.

Leading the team to victory was Jordyn Thorp with 15 kills and Ally Bloomer with 11. Athena Eli had 20 digs and Faith Koneiczny with 10 digs and only 1 dig error.

Both teams are currently 3-0.

The Rockets take on Edison at Edison on Thursday, August 28, at 5 p.m.
